What's the Best way to Microneedle your Face?

The best way to microneedle your face with OliviereWilson

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MICRONEEDLING

You’ll likely have heard of microneedling, the minimally invasive treatment hailed by Dermatologists. The procedure creates microscopic channels in the epidermis boosting collagen and elastin to create smoother, firmer and more even-toned skin.

Used to treat everything from fine lines to acne scarring and enlarged pores, this treatment requires no downtime – but how exactly does the procedure work, and what are the benefits for the skin?

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is a procedure that uses short fine sterilised titanium needles to create microscopic channels in the epidermis (the top layer of skin). Medical microneedling use needles over 0.5mm, whereas cosmetic microneedling will use needles up to 0.5mm.

The end goal is to rejuvenate the skin through increased levels of collagen and tissue tightening. As your skin’s natural healing process responds to these tiny pinpricks, the collagen and elastin produced, plumps the skin, softening lines and wrinkles.

Catherine Wilson, founder OLIVIEREWILSON says “Creating these micro channels in the epidermis amplifies the absorption of topically applied serums and creams, giving added hydration and skin brightness. The wound healing process that is triggered, encourages cell turnover and repair. This is skin rejuvenation.”

Microneedling can also reduce the appearance of mild scars and enlarged pores through tightening the skin.

Are there any side effects?

Microneedling is a safe and effective treatment. Cosmetic microneedling doesn’t require any numbing cream and there is no downtime. It is best to treat the skin in the evening, before bed as your face might be a little flushed afterwards, which is a normal reaction and will subside in a few hours.

Medical microneedling should only be done by a professional. Depending on your skin reaction, there could be some micro-bruising, flaking and scabbing and downtime for a few days.

When should I not microneedle?

Microneedling is not appropriate for people with active breakouts of acne or a rosacea flair up. It is also not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding due to the increased hormones in the body.

HOW DO I MICRONEEDLE AT HOME?

If you are new to this treatment or have more mature skin, start with the 0.3mm device then progress to the 0.5mm device when your skin is familiar with the treatment and is comfortable with the sensation.

TECHNIQUE

STEP 1 - CLEANSE

Cleanse your face with your favourite cleanser and pat the skin dry. Spritz your skin with our Cleanse + Treat Tonic to prime the skin. It’s anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. Best performed in the evenings before bed.

STEP 2 - ROLL

Divide your face into 4 sections and microneedle section by section. Roll the device horizontally, vertically and diagonally for 2-3 mins. When changing direction, lift to reposition the roller (do not drag as this might scratch and irritate the skin).

Be gentle with yourself and don't apply too much pressure. Avoid eyelids and lips as they are too delicate.

Microneedle your neck and décolletage, using the same star shaped movements.

Skin may be a little flushed which is completely normal and it will subside in a few hours. The process floods the treated area with collagen and elastin and will amplify the absorption of your skincare products by up to 300%.

STEP 3 - HYDRATE

You can supercharge your microneedling by drenching your skin in Hyaluronic Acid, Peptide or Growth Factor serum to deliver a rejuvenated, fresh healthy complexion.

Catherine, founder of OLIVIEREWILSON says “You can apply a Vitamin C serum, however be mindful that this is a very active ingredient and may irritate certain skin types. We also advise steering clear of harsh ingredients like high strength retinal, AHA/BHA’s. Now is the time to nourish your skin.”

You may feel your products tingle or "spike” after application. This is a normal sensation. If irritation develops, discontinue use or use less frequently.

The device has already been sterilised following a gamma radiation sterilisation process, however you can sterilise further with our sanitising spray. Sanitise before and after each use.

Repeat two times a week. Replace the device every four months or as soon as the micro-needles appear or feel dull or damaged.

Store device in the protective case for safe keeping until next treatment.
